Deals damage to health and stamina (typically the same amount).Middle magicka cost of the three elements. With the Unofficial_Skyrim_Patch installed, Aspect of Terror no longer applies to Fire spells, even with Augmented Flames. With Dragonborn installed, Ignite is much more magicka-efficient, but will not advance your Destruction skill very quickly. This trick also works well when combined with the Slow Time shout. It should also be noted that even without Aspect of Terror, Flames is the second-most magicka-efficient spell in the base game (after Firebolt), and Aspect of Terror will make it an uncontested first place. If you take the Aspect of Terror perk from the Illusion skill tree', it will make this trick even more devastating, and potentially viable even at high levels, despite being a Novice-level spell, even without Augmented Flames. In addition, by casting the Flames and Wall of Flames spells repeatedly in short bursts (exploiting their charge time of 0), you can output the underlying 8 damage hits faster than the baseline of once per second, which will dramatically increase your damage output. The Intense Flames perk is of limited use, firstly because humanoid enemies will drop down to their knees when their health is below 10%, and secondly because enemies that do not drop down will run away, forcing you to kill them some other way. In some dungeons there are pools of flammable liquid which you can ignite with fire magic, resulting in impressive conflagrations that can wipe out enemies in seconds, particularly at low levels. Many inhabitants of Skyrim are weak against fire damage, including trolls and all creatures with "Frost", "Ice", or "Snow" in their name. Causes enemies below 20% health to run away.
Sonically I wanted it to feel as if it was almost existing in parallel times. “That song ‘Sunny’ by Bobby Hebb, I absolutely love that song. “There’s very few songs about friendships,” Alex says. To which end the album is introduced with a modernist, glam new song called “Billy Goodbye”, about the bittersweet end of a friendship. Bereft of bloodlust, he’s charming company, all anecdote and countercultural fervour, and his band is a byword for intelligent and articulate guitar pop, as well as meteoric success. Sitting in a clinically chic bedroom in a Hackney hotel, somehow maintaining his air of urbane geniality while scoffing down a late breakfast of tea and toast (“Is this peanut?” he asks, sniffing a pot of brown puree, wary of an allergy that saw medics at UCL hospital “save my life” in 2019), it seems inconceivable that this bequiffed indie sophisticate, 20 years into a career in erudite art rock, ever had an ounce of psychopath in him. For the first couple of months or so it was the most amazing job I’d ever had, I was getting paid money to chase folk with a chainsaw.” “I’d start it up and chase terrified Glaswegians out of the arches. “I had to dress up in an orange American prisoner outfit with a muzzle on my face, holding a chainsaw with the chain taken off it,” the Franz singer says, recalling his strangest pre-fame job as an interactive actor in a “static ghost train” in Glasgow called Terror Under the Arches. It’s got to feel as if you’re being spoken to as much as sung to in the natural cadences of conversation. There were times, in the dark and desperate days before Franz Ferdinand, when Alex Kapranos went full Leatherface. Because that’s what’s got to be right, the delivery of the vocals has to be natural. So after we halved it, we sped it up a bit. So, we halved the tempo and then it sounded just a little bit too slow. Then I said look if we half the tempo, it’s going to sound better in the verse. We had this problem, whenever we tried to play it with the band we just couldn’t get it to seem to work. It was kind of like the verse and then I say don’t you know… But we couldn’t get the temp right. Originally, it had a more traditional structure. And that was when the chorus was at the right tempo. Nick was playing along on an old crappy Yamaha synthesizer sort of thing.īut when we wrote it, the temps were wrong. But at the same time, I wanted it to be dance music. Those answering lines is what I was trying to do there. There’s a real dark, sinister element to it. The really sinister-sounding stuff like “ Smokestack Lighting,” that kind of stuff. And some of it kind of-eh-doesn’t really engage me so much. I’ve got a very mixed attitude to blues music. I was trying to do that Hubert Sumlin and Howlin’ Wolf thing of like singing a line and then playing the guitar answer to it. And the guitar line I had, which became like the hook in the main part of the song, that came when I was singing the words, as the words were coming out of my head. And when your intentions are both apparent but neither of you wants to give away your position.Īnd the tension is almost unbearable and you want to the other person-you’re almost desperate to the point where you want the other person to literally take you out or figuratively take you out. I found that to be a good metaphor for romantic situations that you can sometimes find yourself in in life, kind of like a romantic stand-off you might stumble into if you were particularly of a shy nature and the other person was, as well. One of them was a Soviet sniper and one of them was a German sniper. And the essence of the plot was that two snipers were in position waiting to literally take each other out. Nick and I were sharing a flat at the time. American Songwriter caught up with Kapranos to ask him about the origins of “Take Me Out.” Here’s what the songwriter, guitarist, and frontman had to say about its beginnings and fitting the sonic puzzle pieces together.Īmerican Songwriter: What was the genesis of “Take Me Out”?Īlex Kapranos: I love playing it, it’s a banger. Problems with the industry include lack of data transparency, huge marketing budgets, lack of price controls, and the financial interdependence of medical research and publication outlets. Part two describes the business of pharmaceutical companies and the paradoxically inverse relationship in the US between higher costs and worse population health outcomes. And fourth, he covers the promotion of insulin analogs, which show no increased effectiveness over human insulin for most patients with diabetes. Third, he discusses how little statins do to prevent vascular events for people without a history of vascular disease. Second is the fraudulent, off-label marketing of gabapentin, which resulted in a lawsuit with penalties easily covered by about 6 months in sales. First is the story of rofecoxib and the loss of over 40,000 Americans due to suppressed data about its harm. Well, that makes sense, and so glad you are back up and running! Well, don’t question a miracle I suppose - just glad to have good ol’ BitBar working smoothly again Thank you for all your work to make this great feature possible!! Well, don’t question a miracle I suppose - just glad to have good ol’ BitBar working smoothly again Thank you for all your work to make thsi great feature possible!! Well, heck, now that I think about it, I also added my ceiling fan state to BitBar last night – it connects via Bond, and it still has that default “placeholder” Device Type, and it’s showing up just fine in BitBar. The devices all still seem to otherwise work fine thru ST, but that “placeholder” DT makes me leery. Oddly enough, I’ve noticed that some of those new brand/device connections that are available for the new ST app bring devices over with “placeholder” as the Device Type – the new Honeywell TCC and Bond connections did it. I swear on all things holy I tried that very same Device Type switcheroo last night when I updated the TCC integration (and it didn’t work), but maybe I was half-asleep and was missing something! Or some overnight fix-it elves worked some magic - who knows! I just now updated the stat’s Device Type in IDE to “Honeywell TCC Thermostat” and that did the trick! BitBar back to rockin’ steady Can you identify the DTH that it is using so I can look at the source code (if available) and perhaps a screen grab of the My Device Data page with the values Since I don’t have a Nest thermostat I cannot test/fix what is causing this 500 error. This works for Ecobee which is a cloud control thermo, but then again, I am running them with Ecobee Suite custom DTH, not ST’s OEM DTH. Thanks for pin pointing this, and I imagine you are right? Interesting, ST’s standard DTH’s are ‘supposed’ to return ‘standard’ metadata information from a Thermo capability device, like Nest, and that is all BitBar is requesting in this subroutine from above, nothing magical about those thermo metadata results which BitBar needs to display them for you. No big deal - maybe that new TCC connection has some kinks to get worked out. Since the timing is so coincidental, I suspect it was related to me switching my Honeywell Prestige 2.0 thermostat from the legacy Honeywell TCC connection to the new TCC (Total Comfort Connect) version that was just released for the new app.īitBar does not like that new TCC integration for some reason - when I removed that thermostat and refreshed, everything else in BitBar worked fine. If interested, just start a PM to (just click on my name and select message) I prefer to do this extended debugging via a private message. If you are willing, I can try to debug your RGB device over the next week or so given my crazy schedule, but that will require some sharing of your ST API strings for BitBar and the device re-added when I start to debug what you are experiencing. I would recommend, for the short-term, that you remove the offending RGB color lightbulb from BitBar devices in the SmartApp Your remaining well-behaved devices will then function in BitBar… Log.debug “Trapped Error: colorRGBList = colorUtil.hexToRgb(RGBHex): RGBHex = $” I trap for unexpected results since their are so many manufacturers of RGB light bulbs, that SmartThings just passes something I cannot work with.ĬolorRGBList = colorUtil.hexToRgb(RGBHex) That particular trapped program error is related to a RGB type color bulb device that is not reporting an expected currentColor (See below code snippet). Yikes.īy comparison, a Ford Expedition Max comes only with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 (the same one that’s optional in the Transit) and is rated at 17/23/19 mpg city/highway/combined for RWD and 16/21/18 mpg for AWD, only about 2 mpg better across the board than a Transit with the base engine. It’s a flex-fuel engine too, so you can put E85 ethanol in the tank, but I wouldn’t recommend it as E85 fuel drops fuel economy to 11/15/12 mpg for RWD and 11/14/12 mpg for AWD. It has a fuel-economy rating of 15/19/17 mpg city/highway/combined for the rear-wheel-drive model, and 14/19/16 mpg for the all-wheel-drive version. The EPA-estimated fuel economy rating for the Transit is only available for the basic short-length Transit-150 with the standard 3.5-liter engine (the turbocharged 3.5-liter is not rated). (The diesel option in previous Transits is no longer offered.) Both engines are mated to a standard 10-speed automatic transmission, with a variety of available final drive ratios depending on whether you plan on doing any towing or not. Two powertrains are also available: The base engine (which my truck featured) is a 3.5-liter V-6 making 275 horsepower and 262 pounds-feet of torque, while the upgrade is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 making 310 hp and 400 pounds-feet of torque. Three degrees of “heavy duty” are available: the Transit-150, 250 or 350, depending on how much you want to be able to carry and tow. The Transit passenger van can be had in three lengths, three roof heights, rear- or all-wheel drive, and two trims: XL or XLT. I tested a 2020 Ford Transit-150 XL AWD, a short-wheelbase, medium-roof, 10-passenger model. Related: 5 Ways a 2020 Ford Transit Is Better Than an SUV (and 3 Ways It’s Not) What We’re Driving But how is its fuel economy? I took a 2020 Ford Transit-150 on a 200-mile loop to find out firsthand the fuel efficiency it returns, and how it stacks up to other larger people-hauling competitors. I’ve spent some serious quality time with the Transit passenger vans, and what the Transit gives up in creature comforts and smoother ride, it returns in its ability to cram as many as 15 people into it in relative comfort. It took a couple of years to sway me, but after a few years of experiencing first-hand the benefits of the European-style commercial vans, I’m sold. I have to admit, I’m a fan of the Ford Transit. Some of the more obvious features of this toon boom software are the fact that it is fully automated, it moves at a very fast speed, it has a powerful graphics editor, it has a scene generator, and allows you to add textured maps, shadows and so forth. In addition, Toon Both is equipped with a feature with many things like textured maps, light effects, and shadows, but it also has a few really great animation features. Even if you are a beginner, you'll find it easy to make your own toon boom harmony animations. It's really simple to animate the features. You can also animate objects and features such as heads, bodies, wheels, and hands with ease. Whats great with animation in After Effects, is that you work on the actual illustrations, you dont have to re-draw them. Other features of Toon Boom include easy to use zoom and pan features that allow you to move with ease while viewing your animation. It also features a huge library of backgrounds, icons, shapes, text and other graphics to assist you in creating great looking and visually appealing animations. It also features easy to use importing and exporting features to aid you with importing and exporting large files quickly and easily. This software allows anyone to make full blown animation series or even live action movies and video games. It can be challenging to become familiar with the process of creating animated content. (global-set-key KEY COMMAND)īinds a key to the global keymap, making it available in all buffers (with a caveat – see below.) (global-unset-key KEY) (local-set-key KEY COMMAND)īinds a key to the local keymap used by the active buffer, unlike define-key which takes an explicit keymap to bind a key against. Use this if you want to change a keymap that isn’t the current buffer map. I recommend you familiarize yourself with these, as they’re the ones you’re more likely to encounter: (define-key KEYMAP KEY DEF)ĭefines a key against a keyboard map. There are several ways you can define (or undefine) keys, as the table below shows, but in reality there are dozens of ways you can hack the keymaps. If you know the name of a keymap, you can use M-x describe-keymap in Emacs 28. Likewise, you can type out parts of a complete key (say M-s) and then type C-h to get a list of all keys that belong to that prefix. That command is essential if you want to learn more about what a major or minor mode can do. It is possible for Emacs to enumerate all the active minor and major mode key bindings in a buffer by typing C-h m. Anything that can generate an input event is fair game: two-factor authentication USB sticks, as they just ‘type’ stuff like keyboard would that Hammond organ you’re eyeing as a replacement for your regular keyboard and of course your mouse. In Emacs, a key is not limited to just your plain-as-day keys on a keyboard. A complete key is a key combination that resolves to a valid command. They are make up part of a complete key, and each constituent part of a prefix key has its own keymap. Prefix keys are keys like C-x and C-c.Undefined is self-explanatory: it does no operation when it is invoked.Keys can be divided into three categories: undefined, prefix key, or complete key. Most Emacs users will never interact with keymaps aside from indirectly assigning keys to them.Įvery buffer and most major and minor modes have a keymap, and that keymap defines what the keys do when key sequences are sent to that buffer. Keymaps are rarely modified directly instead, you modify them through a set of functions that manipulate the data structure for you. What is a Keymap?Ī keymap is an internal data structure used by Emacs to store keys and their associated actions. As you can see, every keypress – even basic ones like typing a character on the screen – has an associated key binding that you can modify or even remove. So if you type C-u 10 f you will see ffffffffff printed on your screen. For instance, the key f is bound to self-insert-command, a special command that repeats the last typed key N times. Layer upon layer - or keymap upon keymap!Įven elementary things like inserting characters – called self-insertion – is amenable to change. Every function in Emacs in turn builds on smaller functions, and so on, right through all the strata of elisp until you reach the C core.Įmacs’s key engine works in much the same way. Almost all of Emacs is written in Emacs Lisp. What makes up a key bind?Įmacs is “self-hosting” and, depending on who you ask, close to achieving sentience. I’ve included a selection of handy templates near the end that you can customize and put in your init file. And the best thing about this guide is that you don’t need to know any elisp to get started! To save you the time of reading all of that, I’ve written a guide that covers what you need to know to bind keys to even complex commands, and a set of templates you can use in your own code. But there’s a reason why the Emacs manual has dedicated 30-odd pages to describing, in great detail, all the subtleties and nuances of how to bind keys. Altering the key bindings in Emacs should not, on the face of it, be a difficult task. |
